India’s First Hyperloop Train to Transform Travel Between Two Major Cities

Hyperloop Train

India is on the brink of a groundbreaking advancement in transportation with the introduction of its first hyperloop train, designed to connect Mumbai and Pune. This cutting-edge project aims to slash the current travel time of 3-4 hours down to an astonishing 25 minutes. Reports indicate that each hyperloop pod will accommodate between 24 and 28 passengers. The hyperloop system, which functions within a vacuum tube, enables trains to reach remarkable speeds of up to 1,000 km/h. The technology was first successfully tested by Hardt Hyperloop in 2019.

Global Collaboration & Expansion Plans

According to media sources, the Spanish firm Zeleros is actively contributing to the development of this revolutionary mode of transport. Beyond the Mumbai-Pune corridor, Indian Railways is also considering a hyperloop route between Bengaluru and Chennai, aiming to redefine high-speed travel across the country.

Currently, the Vande Bharat Express holds the record for India’s fastest train, with upcoming bullet train projects set to further modernize rail transport. If successfully implemented, the hyperloop initiative will mark a significant milestone in India’s transit sector, offering an ultra-fast, efficient, and futuristic alternative to conventional travel.

How Does the Hyperloop Work?

The hyperloop employs state-of-the-art technology to facilitate ultra-high-speed travel through:

  • Vacuum-Sealed Tubes – The train moves through a low-pressure environment, minimizing air resistance to allow for maximum speed.
  • Magnetic Levitation (Maglev) – Instead of wheels, the train levitates using magnetic fields, eliminating friction and ensuring a smooth ride.
  • High-Speed Propulsion – Electric propulsion systems accelerate the pods rapidly, enabling speeds of up to 1,000 km/h.
  • Energy Efficiency – Reduced resistance and friction make the hyperloop significantly more energy-efficient than traditional trains or air travel.
  • AI-Powered Automation – Smart control systems enhance safety, precision, and operational efficiency.

India’s First Cargo Hyperloop Expected by 2027-28

Pune-based startup Quintrans Hyperloop is gearing up to launch the country’s first cargo hyperloop system, expected to be operational between 2027 and 2028. This high-speed freight transportation network will improve inter-city logistics, linking major hubs such as Mumbai-Pune, Chennai-Bengaluru, and Delhi-Chandigarh. By utilizing vacuum tube technology and magnetic levitation, cargo shipments can be transported at unprecedented speeds, significantly enhancing delivery timelines and logistical efficiency.

India’s Role in Hyperloop Innovation

Although the concept of hyperloop transportation was first proposed by Elon Musk in 2013 as a high-speed transit solution between Los Angeles and San Francisco, multiple countries—including India and Japan—have been actively working toward its implementation.

“The introduction of India’s first hyperloop train is a monumental step toward revolutionizing transportation in the country. This groundbreaking technology will not only reduce travel time drastically but also pave the way for a more efficient, sustainable, and futuristic mode of travel. The integration of AI-driven automation and advanced engineering in hyperloop systems aligns perfectly with India’s vision of becoming a global leader in innovation and smart mobility. At AICRA, we support such pioneering advancements that will reshape the way people and goods move across the nation. This project is a testament to India’s growing capabilities in next-gen transportation, and we look forward to witnessing its successful implementation.” stated Rajkumar Sharma, President AICRA.

India has emerged as a key player in hyperloop development, with ambitious projects like the Mumbai-Pune corridor and upcoming cargo hyperloop systems. These advancements position the country at the forefront of next-generation transportation, promising a future of faster, more efficient, and sustainable travel solutions.
